It all started when...

Southwest Florida Rugby began its effort towards sharing rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship in 1983.

The community began with Men’s Club Rugby in Ft. Myers and later in Naples. A rag tag team of less than a dozen guys founded both non-profit organizations for both the enjoyment of rugby and as a medium to provide community service.   Your local men’s club has witnessed these core values  to help make the game special for those who enjoy the environment and the culture it fosters. Rugby generates a culture of brotherhood, camaraderie, and leadership that cannot be imitated. America’s quickest growing sport has greatly grown here in Southwest Florida.

The original SWFL Rugby organization has expanded to include Youth Rugby programs in both U-15 and U-19:

  • Ft. Myers Youth Rugby (Youth & Middle School Boys/ Girls)

  • Naples Bears (Middle School, High School Boys/ Girls)

  • FGCU Eagles (Collegiate Club Men/Ladies)

  • Ave Maria (Collegiate Club Men)

  • Ft. Miami (Club Ladies)

As well as Active Old Boys Community. SWFL rugby has found success through the years on and off the pitch. The Hammerheads have won National Southeast rugby competitions. The Bears have found great success in High School Rugby. Community and brotherhood are the foundation of our programs. Our teams  adopt the philosophy of giving back, respect, and achieving greatness in our communities. These are the stories that our legacy will leave.
